An Edwardian Girl's Diary 1912
The above paragraph is the blurb that just happens to appear on the back of which was first published in the US in 1998. The cover beside is from the 2008 edition that was published worldwide.
Although this book is a piece of fiction, it is a great way of introducing children aged 8 to 12 to one of the greatest ships of all time as it does have from p.g.137 onwards some historical notes, a timeline and photos. It just so happens to be the first book that myself read about Titanic and even still own it amongst all my other Titanic books.
The book is from a collection in which the books are set out to read like a diary and this book follows the character of Margaret Anne Brady who sets sail for America with the wealthy Mrs Carstairs on the 'World's Most Greatest Liner' the 'Titanic' however little does she know, Margaret is about to face the scariest night of her nightmares.
Throughout, you get to read about how Margaret will meet new friends and people, try new clothes and get the taste of what it is like to be rich within Edwardian Society. Having grown up in an Edwardian orphanage, she hasn't yet experienced the luxurious side of life.
Although in diary form this story depicts a lot of the actual conditions (from the view point of the character Margaret) on the Titanic and the fatal night that led to the death of approximately 1500 of it's passengers and crew.
