Visit the very place in which Titanic was built!
Northern Ireland, Belfast the birthplace of the ship that was meant to be the ship of dreams for passengers searching for a new life and some returning home in luxury. So, it would seem only fitting that 100 years after the sinking of Titanic on March 31st 2012, Titanic Belfast opened its doors to the public.
Located at the heart of the Titanic Quarter, on the site of former Harland and Wolff shipyard, Titanic Belfast stands at 123 feet high which just happens to be the same height of Titanic's hull. Locals have given the building the nickname "The Iceberg" due to the way the building in someways looks like an iceberg. However, the design of the building is made to reflect the history of ship making within Belfast and also the legacy that Harland and Wolff left behind.
The visitor attraction offers fans of Titanic the chance to learn "the story of the Titanic, from her conception in Belfast in the early 1900s, through her construction and launch, to its maiden voyage and subsequent place in history."
As you begin your visit around the museum you will be given the option to have your photo taken before you travel through the years starting in the 1700s showing Belfast as a city and learn why the Titanic was built there instead of on the River Wear where a lot of ships were built in the early 1900s, all the way through to Dr Robert Ballard discovering the wreck in September 1985. There is a ride located within the museum that takes visitors on a trip through the Harland and Wolff shipyard that takes about 7 mins, however you can skip the ride.
Outside the museum, the slipways in which Titanic and her sister ship Olympic can be seen and the markings on the ground of the Titanic in her slipway really brings to the life just how long she actually was. Nearby is the SS Nomadic which was a tender ship for the White Star Line that was launch in 1911 to help get transport passengers and mail onto the Olympic Class Liners.
